Wildlife

The watersheds of West Central Indiana are home to a wide variety of animals and a growing number of endangered or threatened species are calling the area home.  We expect to see this trend to continue with improved health of the various ecosystems founds here.

 

Each quarterly newsletter of the West Central Indiana Watershed Alliance (formerly Busseron Creek Watershed Partnership and The Partnership for Turtle Creek) highlights one of those Special Species. Those same species are featured here.



Yellow-crowned Night-Heron

(Nyctanassa violacea)

The shy heron that graces the BCWP logo is a summer visitor to the Busseron Watershed - and an endangered species in Indiana.  Read more about this bird here

 

 


Monarch Butterfly

(Danaus plexippus)

The regal butterfly of summer raises its young amongst the milkweed of our roadsides before making a 3,000 mile migration to its winter home in Mexico.  Read more about this insect here

 

 



Blanding's Turtle

(Emydoidea blandingii)

Considered to be threatend or endangered throughout much of its range, the Blanding's Turtle has a precarioius toe-hold of existence in the Busseron Creek Watershed. Read more about this reptile here
