Mitigation Clearinghouse
In cooperation with the Clay, Greene, Vigo, Sullivan and Knox Soil & Water Conservation Districts, the Busseron Creek Watershed Partnership and the Partnership for Turtle Creek have launched a Mitigation Clearinghouse.
The purpose of the Mitigation Clearinghouse is to match landowners that might be interested in stream or wetland restoration projects with companies or agencies in need of mitigation sites.
Wetlands, which store rainwater and slow the movement of floodwater, are often affected by construction and other land disturbing projects.
Less often, but just as critical, creeks and intermittent streams are also affected by land disturbing projects, such as mining or road-building activities. Regulatory agencies may require wetland replacement or stream restoration.
These projects are known as mitigation.
When a landowner registers a potential mitigation site, the BCWP will submit the location to the Indiana Volunteer Mitigation Mapping Site. This Volunteer Mitigation Mapping Site is a website created through a partnership of IDEM, INDOT, and the Indiana DNR.
