Get Involved

We need you!

Our strength comes from our members. Everyone brings a unique mix of talent, skills, and interest to the table. Please return to these pages as we post more information on upcoming meetings & events, projects, calls for help, surveys, and other ways you can participate. But don't feel boxed in by the postings here... let us know what you would like to do - we'll find a niche for you!

Call for Volunteers

Although certainly not required, we encourage our volunteers to enroll through USDA's Earth Team. As an Earth Team Volunteer, you and your group are recognized for your work hours and have legal and insurance protection for work (volunteer) related injuries. You may pick up enrollment forms at your local NRCS office or you may download forms from the left margin.

Water Quality Sampling

Twenty-two sites are sampled every quarter (Feb-May-Aug-Nov). Experience is not necessary - the only requirement is the ability to use a cell phone in case of emergency. You do not need to commit to the whole sampling season or a whole sampling run. A typical sampling day starts around 7:00AM and ends between noon and 1:00 PM.   Volunteers interested in collecting samples should contact Lisa Holscher via e-mail Lisa@Busseron.org , phone 812-564-1162, or through our Contact Page.

Stream Assessment

Water quality only tells part of the story. Stability of stream banks, creek bed conditions, plant and animal life all contribute to the health of our creeks and streams. Landowners and tenants are encouraged to participate on their own properties. The stream assessment is not about regulation. We need to catalogue stream quality in order to determine which areas are in most need of attention, programs, and funding. Volunteers interested in making habitat assessments and compiling information should contact Lisa Holscher via e-mail Lisa@Busseron.org , phone 812-564-1162, or through our Contact Page.

As always, the WCIWA respects the privacy of landowners and tenants. Volunteers are directed to never enter a property without permission.
